Description of module content:

This module will focus on individuals and groups in relation to their work. It will look at the contribution psychology can make to achieving ‘best fit' between people and their jobs, thereby to enhance productivity, satisfaction, safety and well-being at work.Four main areas are explored in depth: selection and assessment at work; stress; work motivation. Theories, applications and implications for people and work, including aspects of team working and leadership

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Apply psychological theory to the workplace and explore the challenges in applying research evidence to support work psychology solutions.

LO2: Compare and contrast approaches to personnel selection and evaluate the effectiveness of psychological assessment tools in a selection context.

LO3: Critically reflect on theories of stress at work and associated workplace interventions.

LO4: Compare and contrast theories of work motivation and discuss their implications for the individual and the work organisation.

Face To Face Tutorial 35 A group tutorial will be offered which will support you in understanding and connecting to the key learning outcomes. This will also be helpful if your first language is not English. This tutorial is intended to support you in learning alongside other students and fostering a community learning approach.
Online Guided independent study 150 Each week reading materials and resources will be issued on Moodle (these will also be shared via the Module leganto list at the beginning of the module should you wish more time to engage with the materials). You are expected to read and reflect on the essential reading material which can be discussed during the seminar sessions. Resources to help you to read and take productive study notes created by the University's Academic Skills team can be accessed on the module moodle page.
Independent Learning Lecture 15 The lectures will cover the key topic areas that lead to the learning and teaching outcomes. Lectures are delivered online in the first 3 weeks of the Trimester.

The report will use evidence to support its recommendations. This report will give you evidence of your ability to research and present information in a format suitable for an employer or consultancy.
Class Test 30 1~2~3~4 Exam Period HOURS= 50 minutes Class Test. This Multiple Choice Question Class test date is set in Singapore. Students attend a centrally organised venue, but take the class test via Moodle.
