We deal with people every day and so it is possible to think that social psychology is just common sense. This module will help you to see that this isn't always true as we explore evidence that we behave in ways that are not intuitive. The course will extend your knowledge and understanding of social psychology by looking at topics in how we think about people (social cognition), how we relate our social groups with other groups (intergroup processes), and how we negotiate romantic and other close relationships. You will also develop several scholarly skills such as summary writing, advanced essay writing and critical reading. Module content covers four main areas:1. Social psychology's history, scope, research methods and ethics.2. Social cognition – attitude formation and change.3. Intergroup processes – prejudice, discrimination, leadership and power.4. Close relationships – attraction; models of love
