Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
The theories of lifespan development will be consolidated by including interactive sessions in class time. Classes will consist of lectures and tutorials. Student scholarly skills will be enhanced by being required to apply theoretical considerations to different lifespan transitions. Written communication skills and an understanding of academic analysis will develop as a result of feedback on the coursework drafts (LO 1- 4).



Formative Assessment:
Formative feedback will be offered to students in tutorials and in the review of coursework drafts.

Summative Assessment:
The 2,500 word piece of coursework will focus on analysis of theories relating to a particular developmental topic. Learning outcomes for the lectures and suggestions for further reading will be available for each of the topics on the module so that students can fully prepare for the exam.

Description of module content:

The lifespan development perspective will be introduced by consideration of current theories. Lifespan developmental issues and methodologies will be studied by considering a range of topics, for example:
• Theories of adolescent development from different perspectives.
• Social and cognitive development in adolescence.
• The transition from adolescence to adulthood.
• Adult social and cognitive development.
• Biological, social and cognitive aspects of ageing.
• Attachment through the lifespan.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
LO1: Analyse the biological, cognitive and social theories and concepts of human development throughout the lifespan.
LO2: Evaluate theories and research methods of developmental perspectives and analyse current debates.
LO3: Develop a critical approach to the research methodologies that are appropriate for developmental psychology.
LO4: Develop analytical and evaluation skills in relation to lifespan development.
