Description of module content:

The topics covered in this module reflect current debates in the fields of Organisational Behaviour and Occupational Psychology. They have been chosen to develop your understanding of behaviour in organisations starting from a structural (rather than an individual) viewpoint. Topic areas reflect current debates about the nature of work and the individuals, relationship to it, how behaviour is affected by organisational membership and how organisations are changed by those that work in them. This module takes as its starting point structure and agency and the tensions between them in organisations. The key focus is that of organisational structure is the unit of analysis, although the impact on organisations by individuals and vice versa is clearly important. This differs significantly from Work Psychology which takes the individual as its starting point and unit of analysis. There are five key interconnected topics covered by this Module. These are: 1) Defining contemporary organisational psychology, 2) Researching organisational psychology, 3) Team working and leadership, 4) Organisational design and change 5) Individual and organisational learning and development. The overall aim of the module is that you will be able to apply theories of contemporary organisational psychology to organisational issues.
