The module is primarily an independent study module with supervisory support. This means that students are responsible for directing their learning journey and resources in conducting the project in consultation with a supervisor. The provision of supervisory support seek to ensure that the student has sufficient guidance across all learning outcomes. Supervisory support will also focuses on supporting and facilitating the students effective independent learning.There will be a teaching block of classroom-based learning in Trimester 2 to provide students with appropriate support in the development of a systematic literature review protocol. This teaching block will support learning objectives LO2, LO3 and LO5.

In order that you will be in the best possible position to begin your research, it will be necessary to do preparatory work in Trimester 2. This will require you to submit a Research Outline document. This will outline your preferred dissertation topic, including a working title, brief project outline, proposed methodology and participants, of no more than 1 page. A Turnitin link will be provided on the Moodle page for this purpose. This outline will not be assessed, it will only be used to match you with an appropriate supervisor. Once your supervisor has been assigned, it is highly recommended you get in touch with them to discuss your ethics application and have this submitted at the latest by Week 7 of Trimester 2. The proposal should focus primarily on data collection and analysis issues for you Empirical Project however it should also include important information relevant to undertaking your Systematic Review. Whilst, it is important to have gained university ethics approval prior to undertaking data collection important planning tasks, such as liaising with relevant organisations, can begin as soon as possible. Similarly work on your Systematic Review should also be given similar priority to ensure that you have the best possible chance to complete all of the work required for your dissertation at a Master's level.

The dissertation will consist of three separate parts. The first two parts will account for LO 1-5 and should be formatted in accordance to the authors guidelines of a relevant peer reviewed journal. The identified journal must be clearly identified and the authors guidelines made accessible either through the provision of a website address (URL) or printed version being attached to an Appendix. The final and third part of the dissertation will account for LO 6. The dissertation will be presented in it’s entirety with an overall abstract and contents page that will be out with the word counts specified below.
