Description of module content:

The module will be taught through a number of learning modes to suit all learning styles; lectures, tutorials and in practical scenarios, covering a number of aspects of skill acquisition pertinent to coaching young footballers outlined in the LO’s.
You will be introduced to the current literature and underlying theory associated with how skills are learned in a sporting context. This will allow you design and deliver football coaching sessions with children that adequately support their development, associated with their age and stage of learning. You will be encouraged to contrast perspectives around learning theory and share your ideas within a group setting.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to;
LO1: Develop an awareness of the main areas of research which encompass motor learning and control within the context of coaching young footballers.
LO2: Gain an appreciation of the cognitive and ecological perspectives in coaching young footballers and the development of technique.
LO3: Apply the theory and practice of skill development, and the retention and transfer associated with motor learning and control in coaching young footballers
LO4: Engage with and satisfactory complete the Scottish FA Children’s Licence and the standards set by the Scottish FA in respect to the award’s requirements.
