Description of module content:

In this module you will develop a portfolio of key research and study skills required for a football coaching programme. This will help you to give you the platform of knowledge and skills on which to develop and progress effectively through the programme. Existing skills will be enhanced and new research skills will be learned to enable you to confidently undertake assessments on other modules and at higher levels within your programme of study. It is also intented that this module will help prepare you for the practicalities of the modern football practitioner.

You will be taught how to format your work in an academic manner and use appropriate functions in MS Office (e.g. table and graph design).
You will be taught the basic statistical functions of both Excel and SPSS to help you to manage research data, and test simple hypotheses.
Literature searching, retrieval, and referencing- You will be taught the skills to enable you to identify appropriate academic literature, and reference using APA guidelines.
Academic writing, communication, and presentation skills
An introduction to the research process and research ethics

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Identify, search, and retrieve relevant academic sports coaching literature
LO2: Acknowledge supporting material and present in an academic manner
LO3: Communicate effectively in a range of media whether working alone or as part of a team
LO4: Demonstrate familiarity with research language associated with the research process (e.g. data collection techniques, interpretation).
LO5: Demonstrate ability to work and learn in an IT environment with a range of software packages
