Description of module content:

The content of the module will be driven by literature and will focus on the key themes related to the development and effective coaching of young (13+) and adult football players. The module will be taught through a combination of practical session on the pitch, lecturers and tutorial sessions. The module will cover the following core areas: • Functional (e.g. planning and organising a session, selecting equipment, setting up exercises, creating session plans, designing individual/team sessions, pitch size, numbers of players, duration)• Principles of football (e.g. principles of attack/defence, tactical awareness based on playing position)• Tactical/technical sessions focusing either on teams or individual players (e.g. knowledge, progressions, coaching points, game awareness)• Delivery of sessions (e.g. communication, style/manner, feedback, pedagogy, reflection).During this module you will complete the complete the UEFA C-licence. You must meet the standards set by the Scottish FA and the UEFA conventions in respect to the awards requirements in order to be awarded the licence and progress to the next stage of study.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Develop an awareness of planning and delivering football coaching sessions appropriate for the age and level of player.

LO2: Gain an appreciation of the pedagogical knowledge around coach behaviour and communication.

LO3: Recognise and outline strengths and weaknesses of your own football coaching performance.

LO4: Engage with and satisfactory complete the UEFA C-licence and the standards set by the Scottish FA and the UEFA conventions in respect to the awards requirements.

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 30 On-pitch practical sessions led by the SFA tutors focused on the practical element of the module (i.e., UEFA C licence).
Face To Face Lecture 18 The lectures will be focused on the key topics and theories related to football coaching.
Face To Face Tutorial 12 Tutorials led either by ENU staff members or SFA tutors to facilitate the learning experience by promoting reflection. It will also allow you to discuss the assessment tasks and will involve peer to peer feedback while providing support in an individualised manner. The purpose of the tutorials is to complement the learning experience associated both with the practical and theoretical elements of the module.
Online Guided independent study 140 You are expected reflect upon the learning throughout your scheduled sessions and to complete your essential reading. You are also encouraged to read more widely around the topics you are studying and engage in Moodle activities and resources.

However, you must pass both components of assessment in order to achieve an overall pass for this module.
Practical Skills Assessment 0 1~4 Exam Period HOURS= 0.2 hours UEFA C portfolio and practical observation: The UEFA C portfolio will include a number of tasks and the practical observation of the UEFA C practical assessment. This component of assessment is graded on a pass or fail basis. You must pass this component of assessment in order to achieve an overall pass for this module and progress to the next stage of study.
