Description of module content:

This aim of this module is to provide you with an introduction into three main areas: sport psychology, exercise psychology, and physical activity and health psychology. The content will focus on key contemporary themes including: motivation, personality and individual differences in sport, exercise motivations and barriers, linking self-perceptions and attitudes to participation behaviours. This module has an applied element and as such you will carry out a needs analysis. In addition, you will develop an understanding of the application of both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Define sport and exercise psychology and discuss the scientific study of sport and exercise behaviour.
LO2: Discuss contemporary approaches to the application of psychology to sport contexts.
LO3: Examine contemporary approaches to exercise behaviour.
LO4: Conduct mixed methods research techniques (qualitative and quantitative) to examine sport and exercise.
