Description of module content:

The module will provide students the understanding and awareness necessary for working and safeguarding children and young people when working with this population in a sport and recreational environment. The information provided in the module will allow coaches and volunteers the information to work with young people in a supervised and unsupervised position for the protection of the child and the coach/volunteer. Module content addresses the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Education (CIMSPA) Professional Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Safeguarding Adults and Adults at Risk.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Develop an understanding of what is meant by safeguarding and child protection within a sport and recreational environment.

LO2: Draw on a range of sources to identify the difference between poor practice and abuse. Including the ability to recognize the different types and indicators of abuse.

LO3: Apply knowledge to indicate the procedures required to follow in the event of concerns about children or young people.

LO4: Demonstrate an understanding of where to seek advice and support on safeguarding and protecting children.
