Description of module content:

Over the course of this module you will develop an appreciation of the science behind the craft of coaching and build the technical skills required in the planning, preparation and delivery of coaching sessions at youth level. As part of this, you will consider your experiences, values, beliefs and how these may influence your coaching practice. You will consider the importance of effective communication and your coaching behaviours, together with the physical, psychological and social factors that may affect players participation experiences. You will begin to develop the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of their practice and begin to understand and develop the necessary skills required to research, identify, and adopt effective practice methods in relation to the participants experience and environmental demands in youth football. You will also be asked to plan, prepare and deliver linked sessions and develop the ability to evaluate your coaching practice and sessions, through evaluation and participant feedback.
During this module you will complete the complete UEFA B - youth licence. You must meet the standards set by the Scottish FA and the UEFA conventions in respect to the awards requirements in order to be awarded the licence and progress to the next stage of study.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Recognise and understand the importance of developing a contextually appropriate and robust coaching philosophy

LO2: Apply the knowledge and skills to plan and implement a structured coaching session for youth level players (U18) that demonstrates an understanding of the underpinning coaching theory for this age and level of player

LO3: Demonstrate a critical understanding of designing, implementing and assessing practices and identify areas for technical and tactical improvement for individuals and team within practices that is appropriate to a youth football environment

LO4: Demonstrate an understanding of planning and designing season long coaching plans and coaching sessions appropriate to the age of players

LO5: Critically evaluate coaching practice

LO6: Engage with and satisfactory complete the UEFA B – youth licence and the standards set by the Scottish FA and the UEFA conventions in respect to the awards requirements.
