Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Practical based programme, emphasising theoretical underpinning of sport behaviour through the application of knowledge in practical contexts. Student centred practical sessions develop the context of the theory. Emphasis in practical sessions are placed on the measurement and evaluation of sport behaviour. Assessment, aimed at developing depth of understanding, application and evaluation are based on the application of contemporary measurement tools incorporating one lab report submission and a digital online assessment. The coursework assesses the same learning outcomes. This is intentional and enables
the students to apply their skills and then subsequently develop confidence, and build their skills through the process of ‘feed forward’ feedback before applying it to the lab report submission. The practical
and theoretical nature of the course and assessments enables the students to demonstrate a knowledge of theoretical concepts and applications of sports psychology (LO1). The course has an explicit focus and application allowing the students to evaluate key contemporary themes in sport psychology, cognitive sport psychology, motivation, confidence and self-efficacy, stress and performance (LO2). The lab report and scientific and practical nature of delivery enables the students to apply the principles of the scientific method to the investigation of a research question in sport psychology (LO3) and demonstrate an ability to apply research skills, manipulate experimental
conditions, interpret data and then critically reflect on the results using theory and empirical research (LO4).

Formative Assessment:
Formative assessment occurs through the collection, use, assessment of practical data collected through experiments and subsequent reflection taken place in a number of separate practical classes.
Further formative assessment occurs through ‘feed forward’ sessions in which students present and gain feedback on ongoing progress of their lab report writing.


Summative Assessment:
Summative assessment includes one group lab report based on the students data collection in practical sessions (choice), to be submitted in week 12, as well as an online digital exam in weeks 14/15.

Description of module content:

The general content of this module comes from cognitive sport psychology: Specifically, arousal, stress, anxiety, attention, attentional style; motivational orientation and motivational climate, attribution theory; models of confidence and self-efficacy. You will learn to apply the principles of science to key applied and research questions within sport psychology. You will also gain the skills to enable you to carry out meaningful scientific experiments, interpret the results and form practical and research implications through critical reflection of previous work.
