Description of module content:

This module is designed to consolidate your learning from your degree programme so far, supporting you to assess your own skills, knowledge and needs in order to plan and prepare your independent project (honours project) in the following trimester. The content of this module will foster your own interests and ideas, both in terms of engaging with scientific evidence within your chosen area, and develop key employability skills to prepare for the professional challenges you will face after graduation.Within this module, you will be supported with workshops to design and plan your project, with workshops designed to cover research skills and design, project management, developing scientific methodology, consideration of limiting factors, and critical analysis of current evidence. You will create your project proposal and associated planning materials (e.g. risk assessment, ethical approval) to enable the project to be carried out in trimester 2. In this module you will also engage with multiple workshops aimed at developing your employability skills to help with your graduate career ambitions. These include developing your self-promotional and presentation skills, communication and articulation, identifying and exploring attributes specific to a chosen profession.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to
LO1: Demonstrate an understanding of experimental design, data analysis, and the research process associated to your chosen topic area, obtained via the review and critical appraisal of relevant literature.
LO2: Review, discuss, and apply key theories and existing literature from appropriate sources to develop an appropriate and organised project proposal.
LO3: Critically appraise the ethical considerations and risks relevant to your project proposal.
LO4: Demonstrate the ability to develop project artifacts that can be applied effectively for a creative project.
LO5: Demonstrate critical self-awareness and reflective practice in relation to your professional and employability skills, and in the development of your project proposal.

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 22 Multiple interactive workshops aimed at providing guidance on developing your project proposal (project planning, ethical and risk assessment considerations, methodological approaches), and developing employability skills relevant to your current and/or future professional practice. You are expected to engage with a minimum of 3 qualifying workshops of your choice that best suit your professional aspirations.
Face To Face Project Supervision 4 One-to-one supervision with your assigned supervisor to support the development of your independent project.
Online Guided independent study 174 Different materials and resources will be shared on Moodle to support the reflection of your skills, and development of your independent project. You are expected to independently develop your project rationale based on existing peer-reviewed literature and appropriate methodological approach.

Project - Written 60 1~2~3~4 Week 9 , WORDS= 2500 words You will be asked to submit a project proposal to suit the needs of your project. For example this could take the form of ethics and risk assessment submission (research project), or a project plan/ data management proposal (literature reviews and projects not requiring ethical approval). You will be asked to develop a rationale and methodological approach with the relevant health and safety, and ethical considerations (where appropriate). Ethical approval is not a condition for the successful completion of the assessment.
Portfolio 40 5 Week 13 , WORDS= Variable You will be asked to select a job advert OR identify a business need of your choice. For either of these selctions, you will develop a CV followed by a simulated application or business pitch in a format of your choice from the following list: short video, written business pitch, presentation or infographic.
