Description of module content:

This module will critically extend your understanding and deployment of research processes through the implementation, analyses, and reporting of a piece of independent research conducted in a responsible, safe and ethical manner. In this module, you will conduct an independent project relevant to your field of study that has been pre-proposed in a previous module (Trimester 1- "Honours Project Proposal and Personal Development"). You will be supported throughout the implementation and reporting of your project by an academic supervisor. Throughout the module you will be expected to show and develop practical skills, such as; project planning and time management, critical analysis and interpretation of scientific data, and the ability to communicate the results of an evidence based project. The module content is driven by the needs and requirements of the project you design, and will therefore be highly diverse and individualised across the cohort. Workshops will be provided to cover some of the key skills required for you to deliver your project effectively, including general research practices and those specific to certain projects (i.e. qualitative research, lab-based skills sessions), as well as workshops to develop the skills required to sucessfully communicate the findings and impact of your project (i.e. statistical and qualitative data analysis, academic writing, literature reviewing and creating infographics). You will also be supported by an academic supervisor who is assigned to you, and who will meet with you to guide you and feedback on your progress on the project. Regular informal module leader drop-in sessions are offered to further support you as and when you require throughout the module.
