Description of module content:

Website creation fundamental skills – creating/editing/managing source files;
publishing web-pages on a webserver
Authoring a website using HTML & CSS.
Basics of website functionality: Menus, Forms, use of PHP and/or database back-end
Content Management Systems – install, populate and manage a contemporary opensource
web content management system.
Website “soft skills” – awareness of design, usability, evaluation, & marketing issues

Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Lecture/workshop interactive opportunities to learn the underpinning theory behind successful web design (LO1,
LO2, LO3, LO4).
Hands-on laboratory-based practical sessions will be continuous formative assessment. This will help to
develop skills in web site design, construction and evaluation (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4). It will also serve to
reassure the student of ongoing progress.
The coursework will be both summative and formative, inculcating and reinforcing skills taught in the practical
sessions and putting the theory into practice.

Formative Assessment:
Hands-on laboratory-based practical sessions will be continuous formative
assessment. This will help to develop skills in web site design, construction and
evaluation (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4). It will also serve to reassure the student of ongoing
progress.

Summative Assessment:
The coursework will be both summative and formative, inculcating and reinforcing
skills taught in the practical sessions and putting the theory into practice.
In assessment one, you will prototype (LO1, LO2) and evaluate (LO4) a website using
design visuals and HTML/CSS.
In assessment two, you will create and deploy (LO1) websites website using both
HTML/CSS (LO2) and a designated content management system(CMS) (LO3), using
appropriate features of HTML/CSS and the CMS to fulfil the development brief.
