This module is intended to provide learning opportunities similar to those that you would get out on placement. This includes gaining experience of • Project management• Teamwork• Technical documentation• Client communications• Critical reflectionTeams of around five people undertake a project typically for a real client. A list of available projects is provided in advance and students are encouraged to form teams to bid for the projects that they are most interested in. The client has the final choice of which team will be awarded a project.A short series of lectures at the start of the module trimester introduces some fundamental topics to clarify the working arrangements. One member of each team is designated the project manager. Project managers meet with staff regularly in order to discuss issues either arising from the practical work of the project teams, or which are relevant to the stage of development of the projects. In addition, each team meets regularly with their project sponsor to report on progress and seek feedback and guidance on the conduct and direction of the project. The teams are responsible for the day-to-day operation of their project. Assessment of the group as a whole focuses on the team's application of project management methods and on the level of technical achievement. The individual assessment examines your ability to rate your own skills against selected professional competencies.
