Description of module content:

The aim of this module is to integrate and further develop the students problem solving, investigative, technical, critical, and communication skills through their managing and accomplishing a substantial individual piece of work. The student is expected to meet with their supervisor on a regular basis to discuss progress.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Manage a substantial individual project, including planning, documentation and control.

LO2: Construct a focussed problem statement and conduct a suitable investigation, including literature/technology review, into the context of that problem.

LO3: Demonstrate professional competence by applying appropriate theory and practice to the analysis, design and implementation of a non-trivial set of deliverables.

LO4: Show critical evaluation by analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the project process and outcomes with reference to the initial objectives.

LO5: Demonstrate research skills and critical analysis by conducting rigorous evaluation of the final deliverables.

LO6: Provide evidence in an appropriate format.

Independent Learning Lecture 4 A series of pre-recorded lectures on key topics to support your Honours project development
Independent Learning Project Supervision 20 Guided independent study will be supported by weekly meetings facilitated by a supervisor. It is your responsibility to engage in these meetings, to demonstrate your ongoing progress and to use the guidance of your supervisor in the management of the project.
Online Guided independent study 576 The project is spread over two trimesters and will be self-directed. You are required to take the lead in its planning, development and management throughout.

Report 30 1~2~6 Week 13 , WORDS= 5000 words Initial Report (Trimester 2 week 13) The initial report explores your chosen topic area and provides an in-depth literature review outlining the key research areas you seek to investigate and explore in the form of research questions. It will include a detailed plan and include initial details on project evaluation intentions.
Final Year Project 70 1~2~3~4~5~6~7 Week 11 , WORDS= 5000-10000words Dissertation (Trimester 3 week 11): Up to 10,000-word report (depending on the nature of the project) covering: the work carried out for the honours project including planning, design, development, analysis and evaluation. Deliverable (Trimester 3 week 11): Where your project requires it a non-trivial deliverable should be submitted as a zip file including all source files, supporting documentation and any necessary additional materials. Poster Exhibition (Trimester 3 Week 12): You will be required to participate in the Poster Exhibition Day where you will present your poster and respond to questions about your work. Though formally graded, this session is held informally to minimise any unnecessary anxiety. The presentation of your project should be suitable for a non expert audience. You will be required to submit a digital version of the poster as A1@ 300dpi in JPG format.
