Description of module content:

In this module, you will examine the integration of social expectations and environmental constraints within the responsible business paradigm as it relates to ethical conduct. This module will educate you on the factors that influence the interconnections among society, business, and the environment, as well as how organisations and individuals can effectively tackle social and environmental issues in line with the UN SDGs. The primary emphasis is on the strategies employed by corporations to navigate the ever more intricate and varied landscape of responsible business and corporate sustainability management. This module aims to present several frameworks that can be utilised to assess the extent to which these issues impact business activities and to inquire into the underlying motivations, design, and effectiveness of such initiatives. You will learn major Western ethical theories, such as utilitarianism and Kantianism, ethics and cultural diversity. You will be introduced to sustainability concepts such as definitions of important terms, triple bottom line (Elkington), strong sustainability (Giddings), natural resource-based view (Hart), natural capitalism (Hawken), Gaia theory (Lovelock), sustainability leadership and circular economy. Equipped with suitable resources and acquainted with local and global environmental and ethical concerns, you will be able to devise ethical and sustainable management policies through the analysis of business industry case studies. This module will equip you with a comprehensive introduction to responsible business and sustainability.
