Description of module content:

The parade of world income (introduction). Economic Growth and Economic Convergence. Determinants of growth. Cross Country Growth Evidence. Risk and portfolio diversification. Decision making under high inflation and hyper-inflation. Debt crisis and debt restructuring. Financial reform and exchange rate management. The link between financial, banking and debt crises.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Distinguish economic growth from economic convergence
LO2: Evaluate the relative importance of the various determinants of economic growth
LO3: Analyse the nature of economic and political reforms required to achieve economic growth and weight them again their short-term consequences
LO4: Appraise the basic techniques of economic analysis and apply them to risk assessment of emerging markets
LO5: Assess the likelihood of crises and the possibility of contagion when they arise
