Description of module content:

This business planning and enquiry module is based on student collaboration and will involve student teams investigating / evaluating a business opportunity and preparing a comprehensive business plan for a hypothetical start up. The projects are dynamic, collaborative, and an interactive process whereby you will research elements of a potential new start up business. The module leader will provide parameters, such as industry, sector or product/service focus, to help guide you in your student teams. The appropriate project undertaken by each team is the core of the module. Content delivery on business planning and start up development will be enhanced by input from guest speakers. The delivery of the module enables you to develop and apply problem solving, decision making, reflective and teamwork skills, theory and practice of teamwork dynamics, creative thinking, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills for the world of work.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Identify and appraise academic and prior experiential knowledge of the industry and management theories relevant to the solution of a business based issue, opportunity or problem.

LO2: Formulate, carry out and evaluate an appropriate plan of activity, including identifying team roles and responsibilities, recognising and overcoming likely problems, and making an active contribution to the project.

LO3: Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate results and to reach appropriate conclusions based on the available information.

LO4: Synthesise a range of source materials to develop, present, and justify evidence-based actionable recommendations that address the specific objectives of the project.

LO5: Demonstrate self and social awareness by critically evaluating collaborative work practices and identifying areas for development.
