Description of module content:

This module will teach you how to use critical economic analysis for business decision making and strategy development, within a social framework. You will gain knowledge of relevant business and economic theory and how to apply that knowledge in a practical environment. The skills and academic knowledge developed in this module will constitutes one of the pillars that underpin the Business Practice Project which is key to successfully completion of the programme. You will be introduced economic decision making and how to apply business economic theories to analyse markets. You will learn how to make optimal decisions using marginal analyse. After study the module, you will be able to understand the macroeconomic environment of business and how the macroeconomic environment impacts on individual business decision making.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically analyse business decision-making process and the social framework, within which firms' decisions are made including its economic, legal, sociological, and political aspects.

LO2: Critically assess business strategy within a framework of different market structures including critical examination of the social outcomes and their sustainability.

LO3: Critically assess the role and influence of macroeconomic environment on the business applying data analysis and critical evaluation of the data sources both at national and international levels.

LO4: Critically prepare and analyse strategies leading to potential sustainable business growth on the local as well as international markets while evaluating them from the social and business perspective.

Online Guided independent study 85 Each week reading materials and resources will be issued on Moodle (these will also be shared via the Module leganto list at the beginning of the module should you wish more time to engage with the materials). You are expected to read and reflect on the essential reading material which can be discussed during the seminar sessions.
Face To Face Lecture 7.5 Face-to-face lectures will introduce you to basic theories and concepts that can be applied during the tutorials. Lectures will be recorded for you to view at a later date to help you better understand key concepts.
Face To Face Tutorial 7.5 A group tutorial will be offered focused on cases studies that will be used to support group and class discussions. This is intended to support all students in the tutorial to learn from each other fostering an assessment for learning approach.
