Description of module content:

This module aims to provide you with a sound understanding of the approaches and techniques to structure, design and execute with rigour your final project of the program involving business issues informed by the experience of real organisations. In the first trimester, the module introduces you to a range of key generic, qualitative and quantitative techniques that are relevant to addressing your final project. In the second trimester, you will get the chance to take a deeper dive into the techniques that most suit your final project through workshops, computer labs and clinics.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of the approaches and techniques for structuring, designing and planning a large project.

LO2: Analyse business issues informed by the experience of real organisations to articulate project aims, activities, and a realistic timeline.

LO3: Communicate the key components of a project problem clearly and concisely, using written, visual and verbal communication skills.

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 30 Workshops will introduce new topics and provide an overview of key concepts. In-class debate and discussion: we will encourage in-class debate and discussion to help you develop your critical thinking skills and to learn from each other. Computer labs will give you hands-on experience in modelling with the relevant software tools. Interactive case studies based, as far as possible, on real organisations and real datasets: to help you apply what you have learned to real-world situations.
Online Guided independent study 170 Directed reading: we assign directed readings to help you learn more about specific topics in depth. Additional independent learning: we expect you to conduct further additional independent learning to address any additional weaknesses and gaps you identify to achieve the required depth of learning. Project - Written 50 1~2~3 Exam Period , WORDS= 2000 To encourage you to engage with your final project topic at an early stage, you are required to submit a project description document of about 2000 words early in the process. The project description document should demonstrate you have a clear understanding of your project focus, outlining: - the background of the business issue that your report is investigating.- relevant streams of literature and appropriate theoretical angles to be applied in your final project. This report will inform the methodology used in your project (to be presented in Component 2) and form the basis of discussion between you and your supervisor prior to commencing the key activities of your project.
Portfolio 40 1~2~3 Exam Period , WORDS= N/A You will produce a digital poster for submission and presentation at the Poster Symposium. Your poster will be assessed through Moodle based on:1. The content, which should highlight: - the issue or problem your project intends to address.- the aims and specific objective.- the methods you expect to use.- the project activities and risks to successful completion. 2. Use of visualisation through relevant figures (such as images, charts etc.) or tables, well integrated with the narrative in the textual content.
Oral Presentation 10 3 Exam Period HOURS= 3 - 5 minutes. You will present your presentation at the Poster Symposium. A panel of judges will assess your presentation based on the clarity of the narrative.
