Description of module content:

The aim of this module is to develop your understanding of the changing nature of society using sociological concepts and theories. The first half of the module starts by exploring different sociological theories for understanding social change (from modernity to postmodern, feminist and critical race perspectives). Further weeks will take example objects and everyday experiences and examine them using these theories and approaches. The module will then help you develop your sociological imagination and your ability to apply these concepts and theories to your own everyday lives.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate an understanding of the different sociological approaches to understanding social change.

LO2: Demonstrate an awareness of relationships between social theory and social issues.

LO3: Apply concepts relating to social change to areas of everyday life.

Face To Face Tutorial 11 The in person tutorial will feature a variety of readings, class discussion, small group activities and tasks to help you apply the concepts discussed in the lecture.
Online Guided independent study 167 Each week you will be expected to undertake independent study. Your independent study will be supported by a reading list and a variety of recommended readings, podcasts or videos.
Face To Face Lecture 22 Each week you will be part of a 2 hour in person lecture. The lecture features a mixture of traditional lecture, class discussion and activities as well as guest lectures from members of the Social Science teaching team.
