Description of module content:

This module aims to introduce you to how sociologists analyse the experiences of everyday life. In this module you will be encouraged to think about everyday objects and activities using a variety of sociological theories. Mixing theory with discussions, activities and different media, each week will take example objects and everyday experiences and examine them sociologically. The module will help develop your sociological imagination and your ability to apply concepts and theories to your own everyday experiences.

Face To Face Lecture 22 Each week you will be part of a 2 hour in person lecture. The lecture features a mixture of traditional lecture, class discussion, activities and academic skill development sessions as well as guest lectures from members of the Social Science teaching team.
Face To Face Tutorial 11 The in person tutorial will feature a variety of readings, class discussion, small group activities and tasks to help you apply the concepts discussed in the lecture.
Online Guided independent study 167 Each week you will be expected to undertake independent study. Your independent study will be supported by a reading list and a variety of recommended readings, podcasts or videos.

Portfolio 100 1~2~3~4 Week 14 , WORDS= 15mins&1500word This group project will ask you to take an everyday object or social practice and examine it sociologically. Your project will consist of a 15-minute recorded presentation with your group aimed at an academic audience (50% total) and a group written 1,500 word blog post (50% total) aimed at a public audience. To pass the assessment you must participate in both elements. The project is aimed at helping you develop valuable interpersonal skills such as teamworking and aims to help develop your ability to develop academic arguments as well as share sociological ideas to a wider audience.
