Description of module content:

From the ongoing slowdown in the global economy to near imminent environmental collapse, the fragility of our social and economic system has once again been exposed. Increasing inequalities and the declining rate of profits have been met with panic and austerity at the top of our system and protest, resistance and reaction from below. In this module we explore how commentators, politicians and activists are responding to the latest crisis of capitalism. We investigate the cyclical nature of capitalist economies, the role of the state and geo-political relations today, as well as the forms and methods of protest and opposition to these developments. Questions addressed include: Is there an alternative to austerity? Can capitalism be reformed? What are the obstacles to the types of changes we'd like to see? How do we get from here to where we want to be?
