Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Students will be orientated towards high-level independent study based on the preparatory work conducted in previous research modules. Moodle is used to provide detailed guidance notes and examples of all parts of the dissertation process. Drop-in workshops offer students the opportunity to discuss with each other, and to share information and strategies under the guidance of their supervisor. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for setting goals, monitoring progress, framing research questions and scholarly writing.

Formative Assessment:
It is important that a module such as this - with only a single component of summative assessment - has identifiable points for formative assessment. These take place at different points in the trimester. These will be subject to individual negotiations between the project supervisor and the individual student. This is designed to develop student autonomy through one-to one discussion of their work.

Summative Assessment:
The final project is an independent project report which covers LOs 1-5.
