Description of module content:

The preparation for honours project module is designed to help you apply the research skills developed during previous years to the actual topic of your honours project. Working individually, you will pursue a structured approach to the practical, ethical, methodological and epistemological issues involved in your chosen area of research. You will have the opportunity to explore a chosen topic in depth, relating it to the literature and previous research studies and to integrate your findings across subject disciplines. You will be supported and guided by an individual tutor, with the opportunity for team taught workshops tailored to the specific needs of the students on this module.This module will prepare you for the Honours Project module in which you will write your project. The assessments for this module are designed to get you ready for your honours project.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Develop an appropriate research question.

LO2: Select and critically evaluate appropriate secondary sources from existing research.

LO3: Select an appropriate design for the collection and analysis of data, drawing on a range of qualitative and/or quantitative techniques.

LO4: Design and conduct appropriate data collection, analytical and interpretative strategies for individual research.

LO5: Demonstrate the research, presentation and practical skills required to produce an independent, coherent piece of extended research.
