Description of module content:

The aim of the module is to introduce fundamental business skills such as managingpeople, basic finance, hospitality and marketing that can be applied in a workplace.Following an 8-week teaching block you will then go on a work based placement in abusiness organisation for 8 weeks.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

Face To Face Tutorial 20 You will have lectures and tutorial exercises in an 8-week teaching block that will cover 4 disciplines, Human Resource Management, Finance, Hospitality, Marketing (each discipline has a two-week slot).
Other Work based learning 48 Following the teaching block there will be a placement over 8 weeks where you will attend the premises of one of our partners one day per week. During this time there will be an Enable Scotland representative present at all times and in addition you will have the contact details of ENU placement staff and the programme leader should you have any issues.

Portfolio 50 1~2 4 Component 1 will cover the taught element of the module and comprises of 4elements, one for each functional business area. To pass this component you will needto get a pass in three of the four elements.It is intended to use different types of assessment involving each of the 4 elements incomponent 1:HRM – One short essay (400-500 words) due in at the end of the teaching block.Finance- One short True/False Quiz in-class.Hospitality/Customer Service- A role play exercise in-class.Digital marketing/Social media – A small range of practical tasks using social mediaduring the teaching block.
Reflective Log 50 3~4 Exam Period , WORDS= 1000 Component 2 assessment: A short reflective diary on key learning events at theworkplace reflecting upon subjects taught on-campus and demonstrating someunderstanding on how the theory may be applied in the workplace. Max 1000 words.Component 2 is your reflection on the 8 week work placement, this is also on aPASS/FAIL basis.
