Description of module content:

The module will develop your knowledge and understanding of atomic structure, specifically you'll take a deeper look at the electronic structure of the elements and how this influences their properties periodically. This will lead into an exploration of intra and intermolecular bonding and how it influences the properties of materials. Your understanding of equilibria will be developed through study of dynamic equilibria within chemical reactions and within solutions. You will also develop your mathematical understanding of reaction kinetics.

LO1: Demonstrate a discerning understanding of a defined range of core theories, concepts, principles and terminology in bonding, structure and reactions

LO2: Demonstrate an understanding of the links between bonding, structure and properties of substances

Online Guided independent study 160 For each topic, reading materials and resources will be issued on Moodle (these will also be shared via the Module Leganto list at the beginning of the module should you wish more time to engage with the materials). You are expected to read and reflect on the essential reading material. Resources to help you to read and take productive study notes created by the University's Academic Skills team can be accessed on the module Moodle page. A regular 'surgery hour' will be available.
