Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Core material will be presented to students via lectures and tutorials. Supporting material and directed private study will be provided via the VLE (all Learning Outcomes). The importance of pathology in relation to the nursing care of patients in practice will be embedded throughout the module, with particular reference to cases seen whilst on placement. (Learning Outcomes 2-4). Case studies, group work, problem solving and presentations will take place throughout the module.
Academic and information literacy will be encouraged through directed learning.

Formative Assessment:
Formative assessment will take place both during face to face classes periodically throughout the term, and on the VLE, thus enabling students to monitor their own progress and identify their own strengths and weaknesses.
On the VLE, students are able to complete three online multiple choice assessments for which they are provided with feedback
A mock exam will be held in week 12 / 13.

Summative Assessment:
A single 2 hour closed book written examination will be held in Week 14 / 15.
This will contain both multiple choice questions and short answer questions and will cover all four Learning Outcomes.

Description of module content:

This module covers the pathological processes which take place in various disease states and relates them to nursing care. The module content includes basic microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, and an examination of the disease processes of conditions affecting the major body systems of dogs, cats and exotic species. This includes diseases affecting: gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, musculoskeletal, nervous systems, and skin.
