Description of module content:

The Visiting Academic is intended for visiting academics participating on a bench-fee basis. Academics not paying a bench fee (e.g. EU exchanges) are not included in this provision. The programme is a structured, non-credit-bearing academic engagement programme designed to host visiting academics and researchers from partner and non-partner institutions. The programme aims to strengthen the School’s research culture, international collaboration, and scholarly networks by providing visiting scholars with immersive exposure to the School’s research environment, staff, doctoral community, and postgraduate teaching.The programme combines formal induction and orientation, structured research engagement through research centre attachment, informal networking with academic hosts, opportunities to observe and participate in postgraduate-level teaching, and cultural enrichment through a dedicated Scottish Culture module. The programme concludes with formal recognition through a Certificate of Completion.
Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate an understanding of the School’s research culture, governance structures, and expectations through participation in induction and orientation activities.

LO2: Engage productively with a relevant research centre, contributing to scholarly discussions and collaborative research activity.

LO3: Develop and strengthen international research networks through regular interaction with host academics and research communities.
