Description of module content:

This module will provide the statutory training for specified health professionals (currently, dentists, opticians and registered nurses) to authorise medical treatment permitted under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.There will are two components to this training:(1) Delivery of materials and case studies; and(2) AssessmentDelivery will involve:(1) VLE setting out basic facts and the law, with references and links to other information and resources; and(2) Monthly online sessions providing participants with the opportunity to discuss and apply the knowledge acquired via provided case studies and/or examples of their own professional experience. Assessment will involve:(1) Supervisor supported assessments of capacity; and(2) Completing a s47 certificate; and (3) A ‘reflective case-based account of 2,000 words to demonstrate participants’ learning in practice and achievement of the learning outcomes’.

Placement (Practical) 0 1~2 Not Yet Determi HOURS= 3 months Over a period of 3 months the student will gain experience of supervisor supported assessments. It is the participant's responsibility to identify a supervisor for the assessment component of this training and that such person confirms their acceptance of this role. Supervisors must have already undergone Section 47 Certificate training. Supervisors will be offered up to three one-hour online support sessions during the time their supervisee is registered for the training. Participants will be required to complete a section 47 certificate and reflective report (2000 words)to demonstrate participants’ learning in practice and achievement of the learning outcomes.
